BERLIN, Feb 10 (PRIME) – Germany is in contact with the U.S. administration about possible sanctions against Russian gas pipeline project Nord Stream 2, deputy government representative Ulrike Demmer said on Wednesday.
"I can say on behalf of the German government that we have taken into account media statements, the government of Germany is in contact with the U.S. administration about sanctions and the threats of sanctions against Nord Stream 2 but those are private negotiations, a private letter exchange and private negotiations that we do not comment on," Demmer said.
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
The Danish Maritime Authority said in a statement late on Monday that Nord Stream 2 AG planned to finish the construction in Denmark’s waters until the end of April.
